Careers in Psychology
Psychologists work in many different settings, performing many different functions. Many Psychologists work as teachers, at the university, community colleges, and occasionally, at the high school level. As researchers, Psychologists work in business and industry, at universities, and in government organizations. In human services, clinical, counseling and school Psychologists work at mental health clinics, in schools, in government agencies, and in private practice.
Psychologists can perform more than one of these functions. For example, a Psychologist might teach graduate students at a university and also maintain a private practice to provide consultation services to organizations and individuals about their area of expertise; or provide therapy to individual clients, families, or groups.
As is true of other professions, the extent of education and training is a major factor in determining how much responsibility a Psychologist will have and what opportunities will be available. Your interests in human services, education, computers, sports, or other fields are compatible with Psychology. Because Psychology is the study of human behavior, you can find Psychologists working in many areas; and you will be able to have many potential career options.
